If you’re an artist, then you know that the tools of your trade are just as important as the artwork itself. One of the most beloved tools among artists is the colored pencil. And when it comes to quality and selection, Prismacolor Premier colored pencils reign supreme. Let’s take a look at what makes these colored pencils so special and why they’re worth every penny.

Quality Materials

Prismacolor Premier colored pencils are made with superior-quality materials that make them stand out from other brands. The lead is thick and vibrant, providing a wide range of colors in both lightfastness and vibrancy. Plus, the lead is soft enough to layer easily but hard enough to resist breakage during use. This combination of quality ingredients results in a smooth application without any waxy buildup or smudging.

Wide Selection

One of the best things about these colored pencils is that they come in an enormous range of colors – 150 shades in total! From brilliant jewel tones to subtle earth tones, there’s something here for every project. And if you’re looking to add some special effects to your artwork, there are also metallic and neon shades available as well! Each shade is highly saturated with pigment so you can be assured that your artwork will look exactly as intended.

Blending Made Easy

Prismacolor Premier colored pencils are designed to blend effortlessly with one another, making it easy to create smooth transitions between colors without any harsh lines or unsightly gaps in your artwork. I do a lot of photo realistic portrait drawings and still lives so the blendability of my colored pencils is important.

Prismacolor also offers its own blender pencil for softening edges or blending colors. These pencils also work well with other mediums like watercolors and pastels, giving you the freedom to experiment with different techniques in order to achieve just the right look for your project.

Plus their rich pigments allow for blending and shading techniques that will add depth and dimensionality to your work.

and now for my experience with them….

What I Like About Them

If you guys follow me on social media, you have seen that I use these pencils A LOT! Several of my viral drawing videos were made using Prismacolor Premier colored pencils. There are many things I appreciate about these unique colored pencils; probably first and foremost is their superior color saturation which allows me to create incredibly vivid pieces with just a few swipes across my paper.

I use Strathmore toned gray paper for a lot of my drawings so a lot of the vibrancy of the colors gets lost but I really like how the saturation of these colors still pops from the gray background. They are somewhere in the middle as far as price range from super affordable pencils to very expensive pencils.

Additionally, I love how easily they blend together for seamless transitions between different shades or textures which can create some beautiful effects on paper! Finally, I also enjoy how lightweight yet sturdy they are—they fit comfortably in my hand without tiring it out too quickly during long drawing sessions!

What I Don't Like About Them

While there isn't much I don't like about these incredible pencils, if I had to choose something it would be how quickly they wear down; because they are so soft due to their waxy nature, you often find yourself having to sharpen them more often than other brands which can be annoying at times.

This also makes fine details difficult because the softness of the pencil doesn’t allow you to apply too much pressure without breaking the sharpened tip. Also, because they are so soft and wax based, they leave a wax bloom which I constantly have to brush away while drawing. This wax bloom increases the chance of me accidentally smearing the pigment in unwanted areas.

Overall, Prismacolor Premier colored pencils are an excellent choice for any artist looking for premium quality art supplies without breaking the bank. They offer superior blendability and vibrant pigmentation that will help take any project from concept to completion without compromising on quality or performance. They are very one of the most popular pencils with colored pencil artists and drawing content creators. With decades of experience under their belt, Prismacolor continues to deliver exceptional products with consistent results, making them a must-have addition to any artist’s toolkit.
