Caran D'ache Luminance Colored Pencils: My New Favorite Pencils for Realistic Drawings
A few years ago I began drawing with colored pencils and as an artist, I'm always on the lookout for the best tools and supplies to help make things easier. When it comes to colored pencils, the quality of the pencil can make drawing easier in some ways. After trying out many different brands of colored pencils, I can confidently say that Caran D'ache Luminance colored pencils are my current favorite. Here's why:
Colors that Pop!
The Caran D'ache Luminance Pencils use pure, intensely concentrated pigments to create their wide range of colors. This means that you can get incredibly vivid colors with just a few strokes of your pencil! Plus, the colors stay true even when drawn over different surfaces—so you don't need to be concerned about fading or discoloration over time.
The first thing I noticed when I started using Caran D'ache colored pencils was how vibrant and beautiful their colors were. The pigmentation is top-notch and the colors really stand out when applied to paper. I use gray-toned paper for my realistic drawings and these pencils make it easy for me to create stunning pieces that pop.
They come in many different colors, perfect if you are starting out or don’t really want to blend a lot of your own colors.
Shading & Blending Abilities
Another great thing about these colored pencils is that they are perfect for shading and blending. The high-quality wax used in these pencils also makes them great for blending and shading. The wax glides across surfaces smoothly, making it easy to create smooth transitions between colors as well as intricate details like fur or hair.
Plus, the wax dries quickly so you don't have to worry about smudging or smearing your artwork! I do a lot of realistic drawings and I love how easy it is to blend and shade with these compared to some other pencils.
Since the lead doesn't wear down quickly, you can work on an area longer without worrying about having to sharpen your pencils continually. The colorless blender that comes with the larger set has also been my favorite blender so far.
Great for Details
Because the lead on Caran D'ache Luminance pencils don’t wear down quickly, I can keep using them until the very last bit of lead is gone—no more sharpening unnecessarily! I do a lot of portrait drawings and a problem I had with other pencils was breakage when I tried to do small details.
The lead on some of the other pencils I tried were softer and limited the amount of detail I could add to my drawings. Luminance pencils hold a sharp point better which allows me to create fine details in my drawings that can't with other pencils.
All in all, if you're looking for a brand of colored pencils that will give you beautiful results every time—no matter what kind of artwork you're creating—Caran D'ache Luminance colored pencils should be at the top of your list! Their colors are vibrant and beautiful, they blend perfectly, they have a tough led so you can draw detailed pictures with ease, and they last much longer than many other brands — making them my current favorite pencils for colorful detailed work. If they are out of your budget but still want good quality pencils that won’t break the bank.
I highly recommend Prismacolor Premier colored pencils. Read more about them here. Whether you're a professional artist or just starting out, these pencils will help bring your drawings and illustrations to life!
The benefits of art therapy are well-documented, but what about when art becomes a tool for managing depression? For many people struggling with mental health issues, the process of creating art can be incredibly therapeutic. It can be a way to express emotions, work through traumas, and find meaning in difficult situations.
