How to Make Money as an Artist on TikTok: 8 Ways to Make Money

Making money as an artist can be a challenge, but it's not impossible. In this blog post, we will discuss 8 ways that artists can bring in income using TikTok.

TikTok is a social media platform where creators can showcase their work in the form of short-form videos. This provides artists with a great opportunity to make money from their art.

We will go over ways to get paid directly from TikTok, commissioned work, brand deals and sponsorships, selling ebooks, memberships and subscriptions, art instruction videos, affiliate marketing, and selling prints and original artwork. Let's get started!

TikTok Pays You Directly!

As an artist, you can make money from TikTok in a few different ways. The first way is to get paid directly from TikTok. TikTok offers a feature called TikTok Creator Fund, which allows creators to apply for funding based on their channel performance.

If you are accepted into the TikTok Creator Fund, you will be able to earn money based on your video views. It’s not much and there are other platforms with similar programs that pay more but it’s something.

To qualify for the creator fund, you must be at least 18 years old, have at least 10,000 followers, have at least 100,000 video views in the previous 30 days, and meet TikTok's Community Guidelines and rules of service.

If you don’t meet the requirements just yet, don’t worry! you can still make money using TikTok.

Commissioned Artwork

Another way to make money as an artist on TikTok is through commissioned work. Let your audience know that you are accepting commissions and have a way for them to reach you.

You can also reach out to brands and businesses that you think would be a good fit for your art style and offer to create commissioned artwork for them.

This can be anything from creating customized illustrations to designing logos or social media graphics.

Brand Deals and Sponsorships

You can also make money on TikTok by partnering with brands for sponsorship opportunities. This means that you would promote the brand's products or services in your TikTok videos. In exchange for promoting the brand, you would receive a fee or commission.

Many times brands will contact artists to create videos for them to post on their own social media platforms. I have worked with small businesses to big companies like Starbucks and Cheez-it!

Sell Your Own E-Books!

Selling ebooks is another great way to make money as an artist on TikTok. You can create and sell ebooks on topics such as art tutorials, behind-the-scenes look at your creative process, or something you are very knowledgeable in.

Memberships and Subscriptions

A lot of artists sell memberships and subscriptions to instructional videos, insider access to the creative process or just to be a patron supporter for the artist.

Websites like Patreon can be used to generate monthly income from subscribers. Paid memberships or subscriptions provide extra access or members-only type perks that not all of your TikTok followers have.

Art Instruction Videos

If you have expertise in a particular area of art, you can also create and sell training videos by promoting them on TikTok.

If you have a YouTube channel, mentioning this in your TikTok videos can help drive traffic to your YouTube videos. The video content could be anything from short video lessons on how to use certain art supplies to more comprehensive courses on mastering specific techniques.

Affiliate Marketing

You can also make money as an artist on TikTok by setting up affiliate marketing links. This means that you would promote other brands' products on your TikTok channel and, in exchange for each sale made through your link, you would receive a commission. I do this with art supplies and equipment I use for creating my art and TikTok videos.

Sell Your Artwork

Finally, you can make money on TikTok by promoting the sale of your original artwork or prints. Of course, you’ll need to include in your posts how viewers can go about purchasing your artwork.

Many artists will use e-commerce sites like Etsy, Squarespace, and Printful to sell their art. TikTok allows you to add a link to your bio when you convert your account to a business account or if you reach 1,000 followers on a personal account.

We hope this blog post has given you some ideas on how to make money as an artist on TikTok. There are many different ways to bring in income using this social media platform.

So get out there and start creating! TikTok is a great way to showcase your talent and make money from your art.
